Rumour Mill: Is Fedor Finally Getting Ready To Sign with the UFC?

Rumours are funny, especially when spelled the proper Canadian way.

They almost never wind up being true, which is exactly why they are called “rumours” to begin with.

And who starts these rumours exactly? People of trust?

Are they really malicious acts of betrayal by a close personal friend or a member of the training camp, or are they carefully planned attempts at generating free publicity by the fighter and his management team?

Maybe it’s the UFC?

“Here’s a thought: Let’s start a rumour and see how long it takes before it goes viral across the internet. Then, once enough interest has been generated, maybe that will be enough to push the powers-that-be into making a decision that is based on misinformation and lies.”—Hypothetical Slimeball Public Relations Executive

I also love how the sources are always conveniently anonymous.

Example from today:

“Well, it looks like the Fedor-Strikeforce saga continues. According to various sources, ‘The Last Emperor’ Fedor Emelianenko could be on his way to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, after his management renewed the negotiations with Dana White‘s promotion.”—Lowkick.com

News like this manages to get the fans so completely hopped-up that no one cares to ask who, why or what the actual source of information was.

Who cares, right?

It gives the fans something to debate and hope for. It keeps the interest in Fedor alive. That’s all that really matters.

Because let’s face it, he needs it.

Based on the current frequency of Fedor’s fights (or lack thereof), fans are really starting to lose more and more respect for the man that was once deemed immortal. A year ago, Fedor was the absolute, no questions asked, pound-for-pound champion of the world.

Today, he’s lucky to break the Top 10 in most conversations, and I think that the majority of those opinions are based on pity votes.

Maybe Fedor realizes this?

Maybe this latest rumour is true? Maybe it’s not.

Personally, I’ll start caring when the ink dries on the contract.

Until then, I will try to keep my emotions in check. It’s not like Fedor will get very far in the UFC anyway.

Carwin, Velasquez, dos Santos, Nelson, Couture, Lesnar, Mir…

Who do you think the welcoming committee should be?

Be sure to vote.
