UFC Petition to Dana White: Paul Daley Should Not Be Banned
May 15th, 2010
“Paul Semtex Daley Should Not Be Banned from the UFC.”
That’s the name of this new petition started on facebook.com in defence of 27-year-old Nottingham, England, native and top welterweight Paul Daley, following his recent expulsion from the world’s top cagefighting company, the UFC.
Earlier this month, after some controversial extra-curricular activities involving UFC “public enemy No. 1″ Josh Koscheck at UFC 113 in Montreal, Daley was subsequently cut from the company’s roster by UFC president Dana White.
Needless to say it’s a decision that’s become a highly unpopular one in certain countries; not only England, but here in Canada also.
When White handed Daley his walking papers after the events of May 8 at Montreal’s Bell Centre, there was no penalty whatsoever for the instigator in the one-sided melee, Koscheck, who many now feel was equally at fault.
Maybe Koscheck should have received an “Oscar” for the best theatrical performance during an MMA event, after thinking he had fooled everyone (including the referee) into believing he’d been struck by an illegal knee from Daley.
That is until the instant replay was aired for all to see, which clearly showed that the “phantom knee” had in fact missed Koscheck completely.
Nevertheless, the behavior displayed by Koscheck following the foul was nothing short of Hollywood-worthy.
Koscheck, then, during the final agonizing minutes of the fight, started whispering what many believe to have been racial remarks in the ear of his fallen foe, provoking Daley to disregard the final horn and walk up and hit Koscheck for the remarks.
My opinion is that Koscheck is truly a “loose cannon on the deck,” and UFC President White, for whatever reason, has decided to ignore the fact that he is on board, rolling around with a hot head, and a lit fuse, ready to explode and sink the UFC Enterprise at any moment.
Notably, there was some eerily similar “foul-calling”-type behavior from Koscheck during a UFC 106 event matchup with Anthony Johnson last November, which I feel indirectly resulted in Johnson losing the fight. One in which he was winning handily before Koscheck’s “drama queen” act took place.
Also, two UFC ring card girls, Logan and Natasha, gave an interview stating that—from their ringside seating area—they had in fact witnessed Koscheck “faking” during the Johnson fight. Strangely, and somewhat suspiciously, the two girls were subsequently fired by president White, which came directly after the interview aired.
The reason given to the ladies was that the UFC was attempting a new look.
Koscheck, along with Stephan Bonner and Forrest Griffin—who were among the pioneering members of White’s Spike-aired reality TV show, The Ultimate Fighter—seemingly now have been granted clemency from all wrongful acts concerning the company and likewise awarded a “lifetime membership” to the big show.
Semtex Daley is now receiving offers from pro boxing promotions in his home country of England, which is fantastic. I’m doubtful that the aforementioned Facebook petition will help Daley’s case any, but it certainly can’t hurt.
